Eliza by Fungai Chisakuwana
Eliza is the wife of a Zimbabwean man who is living in the diaspora. The song tells how the man left in search of greener pastures but now is returning home and is singing to his wife that he wants all the good things from home when he returns. He longs for a meal of Sadza and a night at a Jit station playing Ngoma Chete (The drums only)
English Lyrics
Verse 1
Eliza she is mine
I am in the bush x2
I have arrived
Please cook me sadza , I miss sadza x2
(Sadza is a traditional food in Zimbabwe made of Maize meal)
I miss traditional Vegetables
I miss vegetables with peanut butter
I miss celebrating and dancing to mbakumba (traditional music)
I miss celebrating and dancing to jiti (traditional music)
When I arrive home
Beat the drums for me x2
( Drums are beaten in celebration)
Listen Eliza
Cook me sadza x2
I miss sadza
I miss traditional vegetables
I miss it
Beat the drums for me Eliza
I am very far away x2
Oh lord I am in the bush
When I arrive cook me sadza
I miss sadza
I miss traditional relish
And relish with peanut butter
I miss celebrations dancing to my traditional music

I miss it
Beat the drums for me
