Meet Suzgo Ngwira, Skills Development Facilitator in the HR & Training Department, South Africa.
Suz as she’s known to her friends, has been part of the Mukuru Family for just over a decade. Her early years taught her about the power of sharing and she’s brought this generosity of spirit to her job, taking time to get to know almost everyone in the business across departments. Suz truly lives out Mukuru’s strong sense of family and caring, going over and above to show these qualities to everyone she engages with at work.
I was born in Lusaka, Zambia and my parents moved to Zimbabwe in the 80’s where I was raised. My parents have a strong sense of justice for all and our home was a revolving door for people who needed a place to lay their heads as they travelled. So I learnt from an early age what sharing meant. The lessons that each person brought into our home, showed me that the stage of life has enough room to accommodate everyone’s unique gifts. We should always endeavor to empower each other and open doors for those around us.
I joined the Mukuru family in February 2009 as a Customer Consultant and was struck by the way the company was run by directors who were young but also down-to-earth, hardworking and playful. In 2012 I was promoted to Call Center Manager, then moved into the role of Skills Development Facilitator in 2018. My journey over the last 11 years has been really truly meaningful; it’s one thing to work for a company, but when you work for one that literally changes lives, is very fulfilling.
I have seen firsthand how we have been part of people’s lives – lobola negotiations, first home purchases, first days at school, holding onto a call while someone explains the passing of a loved one. Being part of each person’s story is a privilege. It’s way more than just money transfers.
In my current role as the Skills Development Facilitator, I am part of an incredible team that is extremely passionate about ensuring that all our staff are upskilled, well-trained and supported in their given fields so they are able to deliver world class service as a result.
I really have had the privilege of growing in a business in which not only the customer is valued, but every member of the business.
