A fantastic new opportunity has become available for a Commercial Business Developer to be based at our offices in Cape Town.   The main purpose of this role is to identify and pursue opportunities to develop, expand and enhance the Mukuru Wallet and VAS business.   The Commercial Business Developer reports directly to the Head of Wallet and VAS.  They are responsible for developing a strategic plan to expand the Wallet and VAS business.  This position is responsible for identifying ways in which the Wallet and VAS business can be more competitive, productive and efficient.   A key aspect of this role is to grow the business by driving scale as well as expanding product offerings to existing and new markets.

Internal Liaison takes place across internal departments. External liaison takes place with potential partners, regulators and service providers.

 

Duties and responsibilities (includes but is not limited to the following):

  • To drive market penetration, market development, product development as well as diversification of the Wallet and VAS business
  • To develop new business opportunities to expand the Wallet and VAS business
  • Identify opportunities to expand product and services range offered
  • Research all options for VAS products and partnerships in the specific country or region
  • Ensure opportunities are strategically and legally viable
  • Establish cost of different opportunities
  • Identify feasible options and draft proposals
  • Establish a base of contacts in order to develop prospects and leads with various potential partners
  • Negotiate with potential partners in order to obtain mutually beneficial signed contracts
  • To negotiate and close new partnerships
  • To oversee the successful implementation of plans in conjunction with other departments
  • To understand the market dynamics to enable decision making
  • Keep abreast the current future market trends and industry changes
  • Identify competitors and keep up to date on their business models (e.g. suppliers, platforms, pricing, product offerings, customer retention strategies, etc)
  • To manage own professional and self-development

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent (Essential)
  • Related Tertiary Qualification in Commerce or similar (Essential)
  • 2- 4 years’ experience as a Business Developer (Essential)
  • Experience in a financial services or similar industry would be highly advantageous
  • Knowledge of payments and remittances
  • Knowledge of business-to-business sales and proposal writing
  • Knowledge of contracts and commercial agreements
  • Knowledge of operating license requirements
