We were heartbroken to hear about the devastation wreaked by Cyclone Idai in Malawi, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe. At the heart of Mukuru is the principle of Ubuntu: “Humanity towards others”, and we have extended this humanity towards the people of Malawi, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe who have lost their homes and their livelihoods.
We have worked closely with several renowned humanitarian organisations to ensure that our contribution to relief efforts went to the people who needed it the most:
- We partnered with the Red Cross in Malawi, who distributed our contribution of various foodstuff and dry goods to 340 displaced families currently living in a temporary camp in the Mulanje district of Malawi.
- Our contributions allocated to Mozambican victims were bought and packed by our staff, and distributed in-country by the Mozambican Consulate.
- In Zimbabwe, we partnered with an educational printing press who will distribute textbooks to schools that were ravaged by the cyclone.
It is our sincere hope that our donations will make the lives of those affected by Cyclone Idai that little bit easier.
Our thoughts and prayers remain with the people of Malawi, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe as the relief efforts continue.
