Junior Business Developer

An exciting opportunity has become available for a Junior Business Developer to join the Mukuru Cape Town branch.

The main purpose of this role is to assist the Business Development department in identifying and project managing new business opportunities as well as managing partner relationships to enhance and develop the business.

The Junior Business Developer reports directly to the Head of Strategy and Business Development.

This position is responsible for identifying and developing new business opportunities, managing existing business relationships and executing the launch of new partnerships and opportunities. The Junior Business Developer will provide assistance and support to the Head of Strategy and Business Development, Project Managers and Business Development Managers.

Internal Liaison takes place across all internal departments. External liaison takes place with business partners.

Duties and Responsibilities (includes but is not limited to):

  • To provide support to the Business Development Managers and Project Managers
  • Assist with administrative tasks and support team by carrying out tasks on their behalf
  • Assist with getting buy-in from partners on systems / legal / commercial adjustments
  • Ensure project and partner management repositories / tools are up to date
  • To communicate effectively between internal business functions and external clients
  • Ensure opportunities are strategically and legally viable
  • Make contacts in order to develop prospects and leads with various potential partners
  • Negotiate with potential partners in order to obtain mutually beneficial signed contracts
  • Implement the opportunity independently, or by working with a Project Manager
  • To develop new business opportunities to expand the company
  • To manage own professional and self-development

Partner Relationship Management

  • To build and maintain relationships with partners in order to provide ongoing support
  • Create and maintain a view of the organisational structure of Partners – key players/positions and contact details, relationships between players, as well as levels of influence and decision-making
  • Manage issues that may arise with partners in a timeous and professional manner, escalating issues to Manager when required
  • Understand the competitive landscape in each country, informing Manager of potential opportunities and material developments

Project Management

  • To collaborate with various business teams in order to plan, lead, organise and control multiple projects to ensure timeous delivery
  • Compile the required project plans related to a specific project which includes the work breakdown structure
  • Ensure the project plans include targets and measures, resource requirements and planned activities
  • Provide guidance and direction to project team members during the project
  • Coordinate the project team’s activities and prioritize activities within projects
  • Track the progress of all tasks related to the projects daily

New Business Development

  • Market analysis and negotiating new partnerships
  • Prepare all documentation and presentations required for the meetings
  • Liaise with Licensing and Compliance department in order to obtain required licenses
  • Negotiating the terms of new agreements, subject to approval from the Business Development Manager
  • Identify and analyse competitors, and conduct monthly (as well as ad hoc) pricing tests

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12 / or equivalent (Essential)
  • Tertiary qualification in any business-related field (Essential)
  • Ability to speak French, Portuguese, or Kiswahili (Desirable)
  • 1 years’ experience in a Business Development or Sales role (Essential)
  • Experience in developing business in African countries other than South Africa (Desirable) In a financial industry (Desirable)
  • Knowledge of payments and remittances
  • Knowledge of software capabilities
  • Knowledge of business to business sales and proposal writing
  • Knowledge of contracts and commercial agreements
  • Knowledge of operating license requirements
