Mukuru, in partnership with The Malawi Mission in the Republic of South Africa, is launching a Football and Netball Tournament with the Malawian Community living in South Africa, on 6th April, 2018 at the Sandton Sun Hotel.
The Football and Netball teams of the Malawi diaspora from across South Africa will be competing for a trophy under the banner of Flames and Queens RSA Social Clubs.
The tournament was initiated in 2016 when the Management of Malawi Mission (Malawi Consulate General office in South Africa) and the Management of Mukuru met to discuss issues of mutual interest, which entails the involvement of community sporting events, as one of the company’s key interests. The Malawi Mission saw the opportunity to introduce Mukuru to the Malawi Flames and Queens RSA teams to request sponsorship for these social football and netball teams, which were established in 2014. The social football and netball teams were initiated by the Malawians themselves, and the Mission just provided material support as it saw the great need of these gatherings, which bring social cohesion.
Subsequent to a very successful partnership in 2017, Mukuru has again agreed to partner with Flames & Queens RSA teams to sponsor the 2018 editions of the tournaments.
This year, the tournaments will run from 22nd April, 2018 with regional rounds in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban and a grand final taking place in Johannesburg on 8th July 2018, when Malawians will be celebrating their Independence Day (at a venue to be announced later).
Regional tournaments have been organised in three provinces, namely; Gauteng (Johannesburg), Kwazulu Natal (Durban) and Western Cape (Cape Town).
The tournaments have been established to meet a few objectives for all stakeholders involved. Mukuru’s sponsorship and participation enables them to get closer to their valued customers, creating an opportunity for Malawians to meet the people behind the service, ask questions and sign-up for the services that Mukuru offers. Malawi Mission will be using this opportunity to interact and share messages with Malawians living and visiting South Africa during the tournaments. Moreove, these tournaments will provide the perfect platform for the Malawian football and netball teams to interact, strengthen relationships and compete for the ultimate prize.
The Malawi Mission in the Republic of South Africa, the Management of Mukuru and Organisers of tournaments are inviting all Malawians to patronise the tournaments which have been scheduled as follows;
