The Mukuru Back-to-School Digital Competition (“the Competition”) is being run by Mukuru Africa (Pty) Ltd (Company Registration number 2013/003424/07) trading as Mukuru (“Mukuru”) from 3 January 2023 – 8 January 2023 (“the Competition Period”) subject to these specific terms and conditions and the general terms and conditions for competitions which can be found at www.mukuru.com (“Competition Ts & Cs”)
By participating in the Competition, you confirm that you have read and agree to be legally bound by the Competition Ts & Cs (as may be applicable) and that you have the legal authority to enter the Competition for the benefit of the child who will be the beneficiary of the Prize.

Competition Entry Requirements:
In order to qualify for entry into the Competition:
you must be a registered Mukuru Customer (as defined by Mukuru);
You must be the parent or lawful guardian of the child;
It must be the child’s first day ever at primary school, and the child must be enrolled at the relevant school for grade 1;
The primary school that the child is enrolled in must be situated in Durban, South Africa;
Together with Tendai “The Beast”, the child must also be accompanied on the first day of school by a parent or legal guardian who must remain with the child;
You must abide by all the Competition Ts and Cs.
Your personal information: For the purposes of the Competition, Mukuru will need to process your personal information. For example, your personal information will be used to validate your entry, make the reward available to you if you are a winner, announce the winners on social media and potentially share your personal information with 3rd parties in other countries. Protecting your personal information is important to Mukuru and will be processed according to our Privacy Notice. By entering the Competition, you consent to us processing your personal information for the purposes of the Competition.
The child’s personal information: For the purposes of the Competition, Mukuru will need to process the child’s personal information. For example, the child’s personal information will be used to validate the school enrolment, make the reward available to you if you are a winner, announce the winners on social media including the use of photos and videos. For Mukuru to process a child’s personal information it must have the consent of the child’s parent or legal guardian to do so. A consent form will be provided to the winner.
Entrants who fulfil the requirements of clause 2.1 – 2.3 above will be referred to as “Qualifying Participants” for the purposes of the Competition.
The Prize
All Qualifying Participants from South Africa, who meet the entry requirements will be entered into a random draw to stand a chance to win the Prize during the Competition Period.
The Prize consists of the following:
Tendai “The Beast”, together with a driver, will collect the child from their home together with the child’s parent/s or legal guardian’s and take the child to school on their first day;
Photos and videos of Tendai “The Beast” together with the child will then be taken outside the school. These photos and the video footage will be shared by Mukuru on social media and may be used on broadcasting platforms.
Exclusions: Tendai “The Beast” will not visit the classroom. Once the child enters the school, Tendai “The Beast” will leave with the driver. The parent/s or legal guardian/s who travelled with the child may opt to be driven back to the address at which the child was collected from.
Only 1 winner will be chosen. The winner will be announced by the 10th of January 2023. The winner will be contacted via the mobile number given on entry.
If a winner:
cannot or does not want to sign a consent form which gives Mukuru permission to process personal information belonging to the child (under the age of 18 years) in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 4 of 2013; or
cannot or does not provide Mukuru with the child’s full names, physical address (if applicable) and primary school name and address; or
Cannot be contacted after 3 (three) telephone calls to the mobile number provided on entry; or then the winner will forfeit the Prize.
If a winner is selected and all the requirements have been met, but on collection of the child at the given address, the child is not present or the child does not have a parent or legal guardian to accompany them, then the winner will forfeit the Prize and agrees that it cannot hold Mukuru or Tendai “The Beast” responsible or liable in any way.
General
Mukuru employees will not be allowed to enter the Competition.
Qualifying Participants must be 18 years or older.
A Qualifying Participant can only win once during the Competition Period.
The child must be attending school for the first time and must have been successfully enrolled in the school.
Prize cannot be exchanged for cash or another reward.
If for any reason, the Competition cannot run as planned because of Tendai “The Beast” being unavailable, any technical failures, vehicle problems, unauthorised intervention, computer virus, mobile network failure, tampering, fraud or any other causes beyond our control which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of the Competition, we reserve the right to cancel, terminate, modify, suspend or cancel the Competition and/or to disqualify any individual who (whether directly or indirectly) causes (or has caused) the problem.
Mukuru may vary the terms of or cancel the Competition at any time. Mukuru may vary or cancel the Competition at any time without any liability to any person involved directly or indirectly in the Competition.
Mukuru cannot be held liable for any type of loss, expense or damage to any person participating in the Competition.
Neither Mukuru nor its agents shall be responsible for any loss or misdirected entries, including entries that were not received due to any failure of hardware, software, or other computer or technical systems affecting participating and/or prize redemption process of the Competition.
A failure by Mukuru to enforce any one of the terms and conditions in any instance(s) will not give rise to any claim or right of action by any Qualifying Participant or winner. If Mukuru does not enforce a provision, this will not mean that Mukuru has given up on or lost any rights.
Mukuru will not assume any liability to any participant, Qualifying Participant, or prize winner in connection with or arising out of the Competition however it is caused, including for any costs, expenses, forfeited prizes, damages and other liabilities
These Competition Terms and Conditions are governed by and determined in accordance with the laws of South Africa.
