Mukuru Rewards Program Terms and Conditions

By registering to become a member of the Mukuru Rewards Program (“Mukuru Rewards”) and by participating in Mukuru Rewards , you confirm that you have the legal capacity to agree to the following Mukuru Rewards Program Terms & Conditions, as well as the other rules, policies, and procedures of the Program posted or otherwise provided to you by Mukuru (“Terms”). 

By being a registered Mukuru customer, Mukuru Rewards is brought to you by the Mukuru entity you signed up with (“Mukuru”). If you are not sure which Mukuru entity you signed up with, and would like clarity, please reach out to us at: [email protected]

Benefit Programs: Mukuru will add to and/or remove selected benefit programs from the Rewards Program from time to time and at its sole discretion. Current valid benefits are updated from time to time on our website.  Each individual benefit program will have its own eligibility criteria and terms and conditions, which we will make available to you.

Eligibility: To join as a member of Mukuru Rewards, you must have a Mukuru Profile, which also means you must be at least 18 years of age and have the legal capacity to agree to these Terms.

How to Join: You may register to become a Mukuru Rewards member by completing the application process in SMS, USSD or WhatsApp or one of our other channels that provide it.

Termination of membership: You will always be given the option to opt-out of being a member of the Mukuru Rewards Program.  Alternatively, you may contact the call centre, during standard operating hours, on +27(0)86 001 8555 to cancel your membership.

Privacy:  Mukuru cares about your privacy and we know you care how your personal data is used.  In addition to these Terms, please also refer to our Privacy Notice on our website for more information on how Mukuru protects your personal data and how we will handle your personal data.  

As explained above, Mukuru is made up of different legal entities, forming a Group. Different Mukuru entities within this Group provide you, the customer, with different services.  This is because, for example, for some services the relevant Mukuru entity needs to hold a specific license or needs to comply with other specific regulatory requirements.

In the same way, the benefits under Mukuru Rewards will be provided by different Mukuru entities, not necessarily the one you signed up with.  For us to make all the benefits available to you, the entity with which you signed up with, may need to share your personal data with other Mukuru entities, or in some cases, with other third parties.  Where your personal data is shared with a third party, as described above, we will take the necessary steps to ensure that your personal data is handled safely, securely, and in accordance with your rights, our obligations, and the third party’s obligations under the law, as described in Section 9 of our Privacy Notice.

Please read this Privacy section carefully and ensure that you understand it. If you want to become a member, you need to accept these Terms.

  1. Customer Consent
    1.  We need your consent for the use and processing of your information for you to have access to ALL Mukuru Rewards benefits. 
    2. You agree that your personal information may be processed according to these Terms insofar as you have provided the necessary consent. 
    3. At any given point in time you may request, where necessary, the correction, destruction or deletion of your personal information. Mukuru will process your request as soon as reasonably possible. For more information on this, please see our Privacy Notice.
    4. The deletion or destruction of your personal information may result in the termination of your participation in the Mukuru Rewards Program as we may no longer be able to provide the service to you.
    5. By accepting the Terms as set out herein, you confirm that you are aware of the information that is being collected by us and the purpose for which the information is collected.
  2. Sharing your information
    1. You agree that Mukuru may transfer or make your information available to the following persons and organisations (whether they are located in or outside South Africa) in order to achieve the data processing purposes set out herein in order to ensure the functioning of Mukuru Rewards :
      1. To the divisions and entities in the Mukuru Group. This includes its directors, employees, contractors, agents, auditors, legal and other professional advisors of the divisions and entities, the latter stakeholders will have permission-based access only, to the extent that it is necessary for them to view your information; 
      2. To any other person that supplies, supports or underwrites any products or services Mukuru provides to you, but only to the extent to which it relates to your subscription to and use of Mukuru’s products and services; 
      3. To persons who provide services to Mukuru in relation to the products and services you obtain from it. This may include services such as delivery, data hosting and processing and management services; 
      4. To any person to whom Mukuru cedes, delegates, transfers or assigns any of its rights or obligations relating to Mukuru Rewards;
      5. To any person that acts as your legal guardian, curator or who acts in a similar capacity.
    2. Please note that at all times, Mukuru will ensure that the persons to whom your information is transferred or made available, undertake to protect the confidentiality of your information in a manner similar to that set out herein.

Please read this Privacy section carefully and ensure that you understand it. If you want to become a member, you need to accept these Terms. 

Changes to benefits or terms and conditions: Membership in Mukuru Rewards or any benefits thereunder are offered at the sole discretion of Mukuru.  Mukuru reserves the right to terminate, change, limit, modify, or cancel Mukuru Rewards or any benefit program, rules, regulations, benefits, or conditions of participation at any time. If these Terms change in the future, we will let you know by posting updated terms on the Mukuru website, with the most recent modification date. Any changes or modifications will be effective immediately upon posting and you waive any right you have to receive special notice of such change.

Limitation of liability: By participating in the Mukuru Rewards Program, you agree to release Mukuru and its related, affiliated, parent or subsidiary companies, franchisees, and their respective, directors, managers, officers, employees and agents (collectively, the “Released Parties”) from any and all claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and other expenses (including, without limitation, attorney’s fees) relating to your participation in the Program or agreement to these Terms. The Released Parties make no warranty, express or implied, including, but not limited to, any warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose with respect to Mukuru Rewards, membership in Mukuru Rewards, or any products or services related to the Program.

Any member chooses to use Mukuru Rewards at its own risk and in no event shall Mukuru be liable for any direct, consequential, incidental or special damage or loss of any kind except as expressly provided herein.

If you do not opt-out of Mukuru Rewards after Mukuru’s amendments to these Terms have been published, you will be deemed to have accepted such amended terms and conditions.


These Terms will be subject to and interpreted under the laws of the Republic of South Africa and the South African courts will have exclusive jurisdiction over any claim arising in connection herewith.

You may not assign or otherwise transfer all or any part of your rights or obligations under these Terms. You agree that Mukuru may, in its sole and absolute discretion, transfer and assign all or part of its rights and obligations under these Terms to one or more third parties chosen by it.
