1. Introduction
    1. The Mukuru Education Fund: Unleashing Possibilities through Education Campaign (“the Campaign”) is being run by Mukuru Africa (Pty) Ltd (Company Registration number 2013/003424/07) (“Mukuru”) from 28 November 2022 to 25 January 2023 (“the Campaign Period”) subject to these specific terms and conditions and the general terms and conditions for campaigns and competitions which can be found at www.mukuru.com (“Campaign Ts & Cs”).
    2. By participating in the Campaign, you confirm that you have read and agree to be legally bound by the Campaign Ts & Cs.

  2. Campaign Entry Requirements:
    1. To qualify to apply to participate in the Campaign, you must, during the Campaign Period:
      1. have passed matric;
      2. be registered to study at a South African university or university of technology;
      3. be studying fulltime towards one of the following fields:
        1. Software Development
        2. Software Development Management
        3. Software Architecture
        4. Business Analysis
        5. Information Technology Engineers
        6. Software Quality Assurance
    2. have obtained a minimum overall average of 70% and a Bachelor’s Pass in Matric or a minimum overall average of 65% at tertiary level;
    3. demonstrate financial need (a joint household income of less than R600 000 per annum)
    4. complete the application form on the Mukuru.com webpage and upload the following documents:
      1. your identity document and passport;
      2. proof of your eligibility to be in South Africa;
      3. your matric certificate;
      4. your latest study results;
      5. your CV;
      6. a motivational letter which answers the question Why should Mukuru invest in you? Tell us why you are deserving of the bursary including how this opportunity will help you both financially and professionally.
      7. A signed reference letter from an educator, coach, or an adult who has led you or who has taught you.
    5. You agree to comply with these terms and conditions.
    6. Persons who fulfil the requirements of clause 2.1 above will be referred to as “Qualifying Participants” for the purposes of the Campaign.
    7. Mukuru must process your personal information to validate your entry and if you are a winner, to make the Bursary available to you. All personal information processed by Mukuru are done in accordance with Mukuru’s Privacy Notice available at: www.mukuru.com/privacy-notice/. By entering the Campaign, you consent to us processing your personal information for this purpose. If you do not consent, please do not enter the Campaign.
  3. The Study Bursary
    1. Between the 19th of December 2022 and the 3rd of January 2023, Mukuru will create a short list from all Qualifying Participants.
    2. Between the 9th of January 2023 and the 14th of January 2023 a Mukuru panel will conduct interviews (in-person or remotely) with all the shortlisted Qualifying Participants.
    3. On 25 January 2023 Mukuru will select and announce fourteen (14) Qualifying Participants to whom it wishes to award a Study Bursary.
    4. The fourteen Qualifying Participants to whom the Study Bursaries are awarded will be contacted within 48 hours of winning and will also be announced via social media on the 25th of February 2023. If Mukuru is unable to contact the winner within 3 (three) attempts, then the Study Bursary will be forfeited.
    5. Each of the fourteen (14) Study Bursaries consist of Mukuru paying up to R80,000 (eighty thousand Rand) towards the winning Qualifying Participant’s university tuition fees and university textbooks in respect of one (1) year of study. The actual amounts payable (up to the maximum stipulated above) will be determined by statements received from the applicable university and textbook supplier.
  4. General
    1. Mukuru employees will not be allowed to enter the Campaign.
    2. Qualifying Participants must be 18 years or older.
    3. Winning Qualifying Participants are selected at Mukuru’s sole discretion and no correspondence will be entered into.
    4. The winning Qualifying Participants must request the university and the textbook supplier to supply Mukuru with their statements or invoices directly. No copies received from a winning Qualifying Participant will be accepted. Mukuru shall deposit all amounts directly to the university and the textbook supplier.
    5. A winning Qualifying Participant will be required to sign a Bursary Agreement with Mukuru before Mukuru is able to honour the Study Bursary.
    6. You represent that all information and documentation you provide to Mukuru is at all times true and correct and you understand that any false information or documentation means an automatic disqualification and possible legal action.
    7. You agree that if you are a winning Qualifying Participant,  you shall pursue your field of study with commitment and dedication and that you will at all times obey the rules and codes of conduct of the higher education institution you are studying at.
    8. You expressly agree if you are a winning Qualifying Participant, to send Mukuru the following documentation Mukuru’s reasonable request:
      1. updated address and/or contact details;
      2. proof that you are still enrolled to study at the university or technical university
      3. latest academic record.
    9. You expressly agree, if you are a winning Qualifying Participant, to inform us immediately if:
      1. your contact information changes;
      2. if you change your course of study or drop out of your studies;
      3. if the university or technical university suspends or expels you for whatever reason;
      4. if you fail any of your subjects.
    10. You expressly understand and agree that should any of the events set out in clause 4.9.2 to 4.9.4 occur, you will be required to immediately repay to Mukuru the full Study Bursary upon demand.
    11. Mukuru will not be liable for any additional funding, except for the amounts expressly set out in clause 3.5 above. The winning Qualifying Participant will be solely responsible to cover all further expenses related to his/her studies, including but not limited to food, accommodation, equipment and any excess tuition or textbook expenses over and above the maximum amounts stipulated in clause 3.5 above.
    12. The Mukuru does not make any representation or guarantee that it will cover any amounts in respect of a winning Qualifying Participant’s further years of study nor offer any type of employment.
    13. The winning Qualifying Participant cannot use the Study Bursary to pay off past debt with the educational institution and will be obliged to bring their account up to date before Mukuru will make any payments to the educational institution.
    14. If for any reason, the Campaign cannot run as planned because of any technical failures, unauthorised intervention, computer virus, mobile network failure, stock unavailability, tampering, fraud or any other causes beyond our control which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of the Campaign, we reserve the right to cancel, terminate, modify, suspend or cancel the Campaign and/or to disqualify any individual who (whether directly or indirectly) causes (or has caused) the problem.
    15. Mukuru may vary the terms of or cancel the Campaign at any time. Mukuru may vary or cancel the Campaign at any time without any liability to any person involved directly or indirectly in the Campaign.
    16. Mukuru cannot be held liable for any loss, expense or damage to any person participating in the Campaign or as a result of using a prize.
    17. A failure by Mukuru to enforce any one of the terms and conditions in any instance(s) will not give rise to any claim or right of action by any Qualifying Participant. If Mukuru does not enforce a provision, this will not mean that Mukuru has given up on or lost any rights.
    18. Mukuru will not assume any liability to any participant, or Qualifying Participant in connection with or arising out of the Campaign however it is caused, including for any costs, expenses, forfeited rewards, damages and other liabilities
    19. These Campaign Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of South Africa.
